workout/diet

First of all, let me make a very important note. I don't mean 'diet' in the sense of "I am on a diet". I mean, my 'diet' has been much healthier than it has been in the past. I am eating better foods. Ok... now with that clarified. I have a confession. I have not been to the gym in a few days. But... I have not splurged. And I am following my daily caloric intake of proper nutrition and calories. I am using "Lose It!" I usually do it on line. I will download the app as soon as I can. (My phone is not being compliant). I really like it for tracking food and exercise. If anyone else is on it, we can be "friends" and help encourage each other. All in all, I would say I am feeling better. It's amazing how much impact staying away from Fried Foods, Red Meat and Soda can have on your well being. Love and Peace, Keep On Trekking.

Comfort Food

No soda has crossed these lips since last year. So.. I have found strength there. But... sometimes certain food is difficult to turn away from. Last night at work I made some homemade Baked French Toast for the kids. It was made with a loaf of Cinnamon Swirl bread (the good stuff from a bakery). So, it was full of cinnamon sugary goodness. And may I say, it looked beautiful. Kids that don't normally eat breakfast came back for seconds. I also made some homemade Mac & Cheese for them. They are having a luncheon today at work and our house has to bring the Mac & Cheese. For those of you who don't know, I LOVE to Cook. It's funny whenever I go to a restaurant and eat something new, I usually say, "I could make that". My girlfriend laughs every time. But, anyway... So, I made this big batch of Thick and Creamy Mac & Cheese. And I had a bit left over that would not fit into the Crock Pot. The bad part is.. I ate some. The good news is... It was only about 3/4 of a serving. I left the rest for the staff member that did the security checks. That turned out really, REALLY GOOD!!! Even so... I only had the one little bit. By the way... I did steer clear of the French Toast. Keep On Trekking.

Interesting Naked Fact

I know.... I haven't posted in a couple of days. First of all, good news!! I lost 3 pounds. My days off were long. Well, at least Tue was. I got out of work and went straight to school. Long story short.. I didn't go to bed until 10pm. So.. LONG ASS DAY!!! Ok.. I bet I got your attention with the word "Naked". Here is something I thought of today. I was at the gym and there were all kinds of kids in the locker room Apparently it was the day when all the kids go swimming after school. But, anyway... there were all kinds of women walking around naked (or at least half naked with towels wrapped around their shoulders). It got me thinking... isn't it interesting how it's totally ok to walk around naked in the locker room naked, EVEN with KIDS around... But, don't you dare walk down the street naked.?!? I just thought that was interesting. Have a great day... and Keep on Trekking.

1.15.2013

First of all, I don't really feel like coming up with a unique name for today. So... the date will do (at least I used periods instead of just dashes). I did do Yoga last night. Nothing special, just a 15 min stretch. I got out of work earlier than I thought. So, I was able to make it to the Gym. YES!! I warmed up for 10 min on the elliptical. Then, I talked to the trainer for a couple minutes. Since my muscles cooled down, I did 5 min on the rowing machine. Then I did all the Arm and Core Machines. 3 Sets of Each. It was great. After my workout I had this "great idea" for my after work "snack". I put a few slices of thin cut ham on a whole wheat tortilla. Put about 3 T of fat free cottage cheese on it. Dashed on some Smoky Hot sauce and tossed in some salad greens. Admittedly, I was a touch disappointed. It didn't taste as good as I thought it would. Which bums me out. Because it still sounds delicious to me. But, I LOVE cottage cheese. I have school tomorrow and I have to find time to sleep. So, I am not sure if I will make it to the Gym tomorrow. But Betsy and I are going to go to a Class at the YMCA on Wed. Tonight I had a KICKASS dinner at work. Talapia Fillets (they seemed really small. So I had 3 small pieces). With the fish, I slighty saute'd (NOT with Butter, cooking spray) some carrots, zuccini, yellow squash and half and orange pepper. HOLY CRAP!!! It was FANTASTIC!!! And... Btw... I don't even care that there are brownies left. I feel like eating right, helps me make better "workout choices". And Working Out helps me make better food choices. So far.. So good. I am actually having a great time with this. Keep On Trekking!!

good and bad

Ok, So good news... I was able to say "NO" to the delectible Brownies. Actually, it wasn't that hard. Of course, Aunt Flo isn't visiting. If I can make through that monthly visit without giving into Oooey Goooey Brownies or Warm, soft Chocolate Chip Cookies, that will be a Battle Won! I will keep you posted. A REAL Battle Won was to say No to Diet Pepsi. And... I avoided the Diet Pepsi. Two Weeks... NO Soda!!! Wahoo!! Bad News... I was really sore this morning (Sunday morning after work). So, I did not go to the gym. But in my defense... remember: I did I FULL Body Workout Friday Morning/Afternoon. Tai Chi on Friday at work (so, Sat morning). I did some Cardio Sat Morning. So, Sunday off is not so bad. More Bad News... I forgot there is a Staff meeting in the morning. I had planned on going to the gym after work. So, if I get out by 10:30am... I will go. Good News... I fit in some Yoga at work. Even if I can't get to the gym. At least I got in some Yoga. And it gave me a chance to stretch out those newly worked muscles. Nice!! To those on their own Trek... Keep on Trekking.

Baby Steps

Ok. So, last night I did T'ai Chi at work. Then, in the morning after work, I hit the 'y. I only did 21 minutes of Cardio. (I mixed it up with treadmill and Spin bike). My legs were like ROCKS... Sore and Heavy. The hot tub was totally calling my name. Of course, when the hot tub beckons, I answer the call... I like to use the hot tub time to stretch. Oh, It feels so good. Man, I was worn out. It is pretty realaxing. I gotta kinda figure a good schedule for working thirds and working out. I have been thinking about bringing some of my work out videos to work and doing those a couple of nights a week. But... we have cameras going 24/7. Wouldn't it be just my luck... the one day they watch the tapes is the day I am working out. (Probably even when I am stretching or doing a yoga pose with carpenter crack chillin'). So, I came into work today and, as usual, they made some tasty baked goods. Brownies. My co-worker ate one and pretty much melted into her seat, saying they were so soft and gooey. Damn her! They are always taunting me with delicious treats. They always make the best chocolate chip cookies.... Gotta.... Stay.... Strong... I did make a kick ass salad to bring to work... I grilled a piece of chicken. (it was a huge piece, so I separated it into two servings.) It's got mixed salad greens (yes, I cheated and bought a bag... It was on sale) and spinach. Then I chopped carrots, yellow pepper, seedless grapes and green apple. I planned on putting some sunflower seeds on it... but I forgot them at home. So, my "lunch" will be a kick ass salad with the aforementioned ingredients and homemade vinagrette. Speaking of... it is about lunch time. (Note to self... Stay away from the brownies)

First Steps

Well... today I took my first REAL steps on my Health Trek. I have not drunk soda (pop) since Jan 1st. No way am I giving up coffee. Lesser of two evils, right? Anyway, today Betsy and I went to the YMCA. We figured, we're paying, we had better get use of it. But, it was GREAT!! 10 min on elliptical. Then a total body workout (3 sets on each machine). Then 6 min on rowing machine and 5 min walking on treadmill. After that.... 12 minutes in the HOT TUB!! The hot tub felt FANTABULOUS!!! It feels good to stretch in the hot tub after a work out. The plan is to do either Yoga or Tai Chi tonight at work. Then, Betsy and I are going to meet tomorrow morning at the YMCA. I am not sure how often I will be able to post. I will try for once a week. It is difficult to figure out a good workout schedule working third shift. Any ideas?
